Factors Affecting WBJEE Rank 2025
Several factors determine the WBJEE ranks 2025, and it also impacts the admission to various participating Institutes. Check below for some of the factors that affect WBJEE 2025 ranks.
- Total Marks Secured: Your rank is largely determined by your score out of 50 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Mathematics has the highest mark, which is 100 marks, while Physics and Chemistry only have 50 marks each.
- Difficulty Level of the Exam: If the paper is harder than normal, even if you score slightly lower, you could still have a mid-level rank. The difficulty level of the exam affects the overall ranking and cutoffs.
- Total Number of Candidates: The more candidates who appear for the exam, the more competitive it will be. An increased number of candidates usually produces a more competitive margin.
- Category (General, SC, ST, OBC, etc.): WBJEE ranks are released by category, and the overall cutoffs get affected.

How is WBJEE 2025 Percentile Calculated?
Candidates can calculate the WBJEE 2025 percentile using the given formula:
Percentile = (Total Candidates – Rank) / Total Candidates) ×100
Example:
If we consider that 1,00,000 students appeared for the WBJEE exam. And you scored 5000th rank in WBJEE.
Then,
Percentile = ((100000 – 5000) / 100000)) × 100 = 95%
This means you scored better than 95% of the candidates.
WBJEE 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates secure the same marks, the authorities will decide which candidate makes it to the merit list through some tie-breaking criteria. Check the tie-breaking criteria given below.
- If the candidate secures higher marks in the Mathematics paper, they will be given a better rank.
- If the tie remains, then Physics marks will be given priority. Candidates with higher marks in Physics will be ranked higher.
- The third criterion is that the candidates with a greater total score in the 2-mark questions of Mathematics and Physics will be prioritized.
- If the tie persists, then the authorities will consider the candidate with fewer total negative marks in 2-mark questions across all subjects.
- The candidate with the least number of wrong answers across all questions will be ranked higher.
- At the end, if the tie remains, the older candidate will be preferred.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a good score in WBJEE 2025?
Scores of 130 or above can be classified as good, and you will most likely receive a strong rank in the top 1000. This will allow you ample opportunity to take admission in top government engineering institutions of West Bengal, such as Jadavpur University.
2. What marks should I gain to attain a rank below 1000 in WBJEE?
Around 120–130 marks will give you a rank below 1000. However, it would vary depending on the toughness of the paper and the candidates’ overall performance.
3. Will I get CSE in Jadavpur University with 100 marks in WBJEE?
Highly unlikely, as scoring 135+ should be the cutoff in the open category for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) for a seat in Jadavpur University. 100 marks will most likely give you a rank somewhere around 4000-6000, which will not be sufficient.
4. Â Is there negative marking in WBJEE 2025?
Yes. For Category I, you will lose 0.25 for each wrong response. Category II has no negative marking. Category III questions have three or more answers, and you have negative marking depending on the incorrect options.
5.  What rank is 90 marks in WBJEE?
90 marks will give you a rank between 2000 – 4000 in WBJEE 2025. The candidates achieving a rank in this range can aim for colleges such as Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, Narula Institute of Technology, Kolkata, Techno India, Salt Lake, etc.
6. What is the safe score for WBJEE 2025?
In WBJEE 2025, a 150 marks is considered a safe score. If a candidate secures a 150+ score can easily achieve a rank between the range of 150 – 250. Candidates can easily get admission in the top colleges such as the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Kolkata, the University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University (JU), etc.
7. Do the marks vs rank in WBJEE change every year?
Yes, marks vs rank in WBJEE adjusts every year with there being a few reasons for this, including exam difficulty level, the number of candidates, and overall student performance. This is why you should look at the most recent trends and not only previous years’ marks vs rank.
8. How many marks are required for a top 1000 rank as per WBJEE 2025 marks vs rank trend?
Unlike the WBJEE 2024 marks vs rank trend, this year also it is also expected that a score of around 120–130 marks is typically needed to secure a rank under 1000 in the General category, though this may vary based on the paper’s difficulty.
9. Â Is there a big difference between WBJEE rank vs marks 2025 for 90 and 100 marks?
Unlike WBJEE rank vs marks 2024, this year also even a 10-mark difference can lead to a significant change in rank in the WBJEE rank vs marks 2025 trend. For instance, 100 marks may place you around 4000–5000 rank, while 90 marks might drop you to 6000–8000, depending on the overall performance of the year.
